API error type
Proxy required
HTTP 422 https://errors.driftstack.dev/proxy-required
What it means
A session was asked for without one of your saved proxies, so nothing was created: no session, no charge, and nothing recorded under the Idempotency-Key. Every agent session runs through a proxy you chose — Driftstack has no connection of its own to run it on. The body carries code: "proxy_required". Only agent sessions require a proxy; a deployment set to require one for every session (an operator setting) also refuses POST /v1/sessions and POST /v1/profiles/{id}/launch this way, because they cannot run a session through a proxy at all.
How to fix it
Pass the id of one of your saved proxies as proxy_id on POST /v1/agent-sessions — with profile_id too to launch a profile. GET /v1/account/me/proxies lists the ids, and POST /v1/account/me/proxies saves a new proxy and returns its id; both need a key with the account_owner scope. A proxy you add in the desktop app is saved to your account the first time the app tests it or launches through it, and is listed from then on.
Where it appears
In the type field of the RFC 9457 application/problem+json error body, alongside title, status, detail, and an instance correlation id.
